FAQ

Welcome to our FAQ section to serve both current and prospective students. There are answers to common questions here, but let us know if you have a different question. We’ll happily help out.

What makes Survival Skills different from  any other training?

I teach Survival Skills. I spent sixteen years riding for a living as a courier, and survived well over half a million miles. If I learned one thing from that experience, it was that no matter how great our riding skills, we have to understand how things go wrong. Drivers make mistakes, and so do we. The only way to enhance safety is to be able to recognise how, where and why things go wrong. Only then can we use our skills to stay out of trouble whenever we can, and to get out of trouble on the occasions we find ourselves in in.

I'm outside the UK - can you still help?

For sure. Not only are there hundreds of better biking articles on my www.ko-fi.com/survivalskills site and insightful videos on my YouTube channel, I also offer inexpensive ONLINE COACHING sessions. Pick from a selection of standard topics, or contact me to organise something especially for you. You'll be surprised just how much you can learn from an experienced rider coach in a one-to-one online session, all at a time that suits you.

What is your cancellation policy?

Full details are including with the booking package you'll receive by email, but in short under Consumer Contracts Regulations, you have a statutory 14 DAY cooling-off period beginning the day after the course was confirmed by email in which to claim a full refund.

Should you be forced to cancel the course due to unforeseen circumstances, Survival Skills will also voluntarily offer a full refund if you cancel the course 28 DAYS before the first day.

For later cancellations the minimum deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE.

However, so long as you give 48 HOURS NOTICE of a cancellation, the deposit would be credited to another course or date. I'll simply reschedule the course for another mutually convenient date with no charge.

If you cancel the course with LESS THAN 48 HOURS NOTICE, the deposit is non-refundable, a new booking must be made, and the full course cost will apply.

What happens if the weather is bad?

All training is weather-dependent.

If there are potential SAFETY ISSUES (for example, a Met Office weather warning for torrential rain, flooded roads, gale-force winds, thick fog, or ice and snow), I will almost certainly postpone the session and rearrange it for a later mutually convenient date.

If the weather for the day looks poor,  I'll consult with you on whether to go ahead, alter the start time or even postpone the session. In my experience, training in poor weather simply makes the course less enjoyable and you won't learn as much.

If the weather deteriorates during the session to the point where I feel you are no longer benefiting from the training, I will recommend abandoning the session and rescheduling to a mutually convenient date.

There will be no additional charges for any such rearranged session.
